There was plenty of scoring last night. The Timberwolves scored 130 to win in Sacramento, though it was the Kings’ De’Aaron Fox who really lit it up with 60 points. The St. Thomas men scored 102 in routing St. Norbert 102-54.
But if you crave scoring, Moorhead was the place to be. The Concordia (Moorhead) women demolished Providence University College of Manitoba 150-44. So, Providence was not only a Canadian team (not always a sign of weakness, but sometimes) but in this case it was a really bad Canadian team. They came into the game at 0-5. And the Cobbers promptly ran out to a 49-5 lead after one quarter of play. Ten minutes, 49 points. The Concordia starters played just 59 minutes, the equivalent of just over one quarter. So, while this isn’t quite the way it played out, let’s just pretend that the Concordia starters outscored Providence 49-5 and then the substitutes took over and won the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters 101-39. Now, 101-39 is almost respectable nowadays but this was the substitutes who did that.
Concordia outscored Providence off of turnovers 71-2! That has got to be some kind of record. And, that Concordia player who coughed up the ball for Providence’s 2 POT has got to be feeling pretty sheepish.
Molly Musland came off the bench for the Cobbers to lead in scoring with 19 points in 14 minutes. Last year’s MIAC player of the year Carlee Sieben had 17 points (but 5 turnovers) in just 11 minutes. Olivia Hanson, Alexa Snesrud and Peyton Bradenbach all came off the bench to lead Concordia with 18 minutes played., and they scored 37 points among them. Hanson added a team-high 7 rebounds, while Bradenbach pretty much went crazy, leading the Cobbers with 8 assists and 4 steals.
It was a good night to be a Cobber.
